IBM Chip That Emulates Human Brain

International Business Machines(IBM) has presented computer chip which is capable of processing massive bulks of data and can handle different inputs simultaneously at the same time.

The chip is called 'Brain Like-Chip' and will be the subject of research for next five years. The company has reveiled that 3 billion dollars of investment has already been done till date.

The chip is the size of a postage stamp. Unlike other chips which operate on pre defined algorithms and paths , this chip processes data on real time basis. It manages with the problem of ambiguity and runs on energy merely equivalent to that of a hearing aid. The chip consumes 70mW of energy and it is built on Samsung ElectroMechanics Co Ltd's 28nm process technology. The chip uses a million digital nearons and 256 million synapses. It uses 5.4 billion transistors to deliver that performance.

It can be said to be as an outline of human brain which is amazingly fast and good at processing images, audio, video and other data. The chip uses the decades old Von Neumann architecture.

IBM is expecting that this chip will integrate the multi sensory processing into mobile devices and can handle future advances. Based on this technology , Company is also visualizing of a power efficient real time super computer which would be having 100 trillion transistors (approximately present in human brain) or more.

So this Brain Chip has just begun a new era among intelligent computing.
